Speed and accuracy can sometimes be great challenges for an artist. One way to hone these skills is to have a figure model strike a post for a very limited time (such as only 1 minute). At first, producing a precise representation of the model is extremely difficult. You have to struggle to remember anatomy, measure proportion, and instill movement – all in a very restricted time. But with practice the artist’s hand becomes more confident, the lines are more fluid, and the final drawing (though not perfect) is a celebration of the human figure.
