Sketch of a Ballerina

Sketch of a Ballerina

After looking through some breathtaking paintings of ballerinas by Guan ZeJu, I decided to do a quick sketch of a dancer. This drawing was completed in one evening. But the amazingly realistic and delicate paintings by Zeju demand far more time and focus.

Art is a fantastic means of portraying an idea and touching lives, despite language and cultural barriers. Guan ZeJu was born in 1941 in Yangjiang, Guangdong Province. Today he is a Senior Artist of the Guangzhou Art Institute and a member of the Artists’ Association of China; he has served as Director of the Guangdong Provincial Branch of the Artists’ Association of China and Vice-Secretary General of the Oil Painting Research Association of Guangdong, China. He made his way to America and became a celebrated painter of the ballet, which culminated in the release of the book “Guan ZeJu: Selected Ballet Paintings,” in 2000….So what will you accomplish today and how many people will you inspire?
