Pet Portrait – “In Tandem”

"In Tandem," 16" x 20", Colored Pencil on Watercolor Paper

“In Tandem,” 16″ x 20″, Colored Pencil on Watercolor Paper

This was a very fun pet portrait!  On the left, the dog laying down had light creams, tans, and subtle shades of grey throughout her fur, which was a wonderful mix of long hairs along her ears and shorter fur on her legs. As a whole, her soft delicate fur was a joy to draw. Due to the amount of fur around her face, I gave her a slight “hair cut” so you could see her delicate moist eyes. On the right, the dog sitting up had numerous shades of blue, grey, and purple (with some hints of tan), which wove together beautifully in his wavy fur. For his face, his eyes were highlighted slightly, so they would stand out in his striking visage.

Both canines had distinct personalities, to go along with their unique appearances. Laying down with a stubborn upturned chin or sitting up, ready to take charge of any situation – they each presented their own special qualities to bring life and happiness into the home. In this pencil drawing, they share a camaraderie that shows an enduring friendship and maintains their individuality.
